ASU Global Symposium: Women Leadership in International Relations

  • Plemmons Student Union 263 Locust Street Boone, NC, 28608 United States (map)

The Dan German Visiting Distinguished Chair from the Department of Government and Justice Studies, Professor Federiga Bindi, will chair a panel of students from her Women in International Relations course to discuss major women on the past and present political stage across multiple countries and backgrounds.  They include the United States’ Hilary Clinton and Condoleezza Rice, the United Kingdom’s Margaret Thatcher and Myanmar’s Aung San Suu Kyi.  All four women have played major roles in international relations with varying results and receptions from their peers and respective citizens.

Each woman would be discussed by the student that researched them and includes students from both the graduate program in the Department of Governments and Justice Studies.  There will be a short introduction about the class and women in international relations followed by students 5-8 minutes to discuss the primary achievements of each woman along with the obstacles and reactions they faced throughout their career.  The panel would give insight into the perspective of women in diplomacy, international relations and scholarship.
