Is the world getting turned on its head? As the US is redefining its foreign policy, the European Union is confronting the challenges of Brexit. Amid the tumult, world leaders are hurriedly repositioning themselves to deal with the new world.

Join the Faculty of Economics and the EU Center of Excellence of the University of Tor Vergata for a timely and extremely stimulating conversation with Lady Catherine Ashton, the Hon Pier Ferdinando Casini and the Hon. Franco Frattini.

The Rector of the University of Rome Tor Vergata, Prof. Giuseppe Novelli, will officially open the conference and offer welcome remarks.

Prof. Giovanni Tria will chair the meeting. Prof. Federiga Bindi, will introduce the conversation.

Lady Catherine Ashton, Baroness Ashton of Upholland, is a life peer and former Leader in the House of Lords and member and former Chair of HRM the Queen of England's Privy Council. From 2009-2014, she served as the European Union's first High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, after having served as the EU Trades Commissioner. As EUHR, she negotiated the Iran Nuclear Deal alongside Secretary John Kerry and brought Serbia and Kosovo to a long needed agreement. She previously served as Minister for Justice and Minister for Education in the UK.

The Hon. Pier Ferdinando Casini is an Italian Senator and Chair of the Senate's Foreign Policy Committe. He is also Honorary President of the Centrist Democrat International. Previously, he was the President of the Chamber of Deputies and also served two terms in the European Parliament.

The Hon. Franco Frattini is the President of the Government Legislation division of the Italian Supreme Administrative Court. He was twice Italian Foreign Minister and in between served as Vice President of the European Commission. Previously, he was Minister of Public Administration and Intelligence as well as President of the Intelligence Committee of the Italian Parliament. Since 2012, he is president of the Italian Society for International Organization (SIOI).

Prof. Giovanni Tria is the Dean of the Faculty of Economics and a Full Professor of Economy at the University of Rome at Tor Vergata, where he also directed CEIS, leading it to become one of Italy’s top ranking think tanks. After that, he served as President of the Italian National School of Administration (SNA).

Prof. Federiga Bindi holds the Jean Monnet Chair and was the founding Director of the EU Center of Excellence at the University of Rome Tor Vergata. She has been a Visiting Fellow at several international institutions, among which the Brookings Institution and SAIS Johns Hopkins University in Washington DC, Sc.Po. Paris., the Norwegian Institute for International Affairs and the University of Lisbon.
